A young owl in flight. Determined. Set. He gazes straight ahead with resolution and a keen focus. Nothing will pull him away from his chosen course of action. The lines in the background meet at his centre, adding to the strength of his fortitude. So is the Son of Swords.
Representing forceful and determined action, the Son of Swords is a man of action, not of grace. He moves with great determination and, on top of that, is highly intelligent – making him a force to be reckoned with. Usually the son is seeking approval from his patient and just father who casts a shadow upon him. Working with this young spirit can be quite the challenge.
We’re reminded with the Son of Swords that we need to find our balance. Balance between the determined, single-minded side of ourselves that wants to move towards something particular with brute speed and force, with our ability to see the bigger picture. The young owl is ready to pierce his chosen target. While he is set in his way, he can often move with blinders on and can be stubborn and unwilling to see any other options. He can be blunt in his interactions and patience isn’t his strong suit.
This week’s card is asking us to closely evaluate our approach in any given situation. Do we need to be more direct, blatantly honest, and focused? Or, have we lost sight of the bigger picture? It might be time to step back and evaluate our approach from an unbiased perspective and use our wisdom to determine the next step.
