Screw Resolutions

It’s January 2nd and you may have already broken a resolution (or two). If you have, you’re not on your own, promise. Or you may have set a lofty goal that’ll take a while to achieve, leaving you feeling a little overwhelmed.

I must admit, I took the entire day on New Year’s Eve to think about what I want to get moving for 2014. But there was nothing on that ‘to-do list’ that I didn’t put out there during the year. More than anything, it was a day to reflect. It was a day to look back on the year and say, “Wow. I pulled that off.” It’s easy to forget your accomplishments or write them off since you’re living them day-to-day. It all almost becomes mundane.

So let’s toss out the fact that it’s a new year and everyone is getting on the ‘New Year, New Me’ bandwagon. (And I say that because every day, every hour and every minute is new and gives you the opportunity to chuck what you know and start from scratch). But let’s, just for a minute, take a look back and reflect on the wins of 2013. What did you excel at? Who did you meet that taught you something? What did you get rid of that was no longer serving you? Win, win, win.

How about scrapping resolutions this year (if you made any). And instead, look back at all the good shit you made happen and learn from those things and take it all to another level. Chuck the pressure of a long list of things you think you ‘should’ do to make this a better year than last. Instead, pat yourself on the back for all the great things you’ve done that have made you a better person and build on those things. It’s a lot easier since you’re already on your way.

Thanks! I agree – resolutions are almost made to be broken. No point on setting yourself up for failure!
