This week’s card is the Father of Pentacles. The suit of Pentacles refers to worldly possessions and is ruled by the Earth element. These speak to issues of our home, money, and career. They reflect our generousity or greed.

In the predominantly b+w Wild Unknown deck, when the full spectrum of colours appear, it’s not by accident. This alludes to the notion of a full and multifaceted aspect of our character. A place within which we feel rounded and complete. The Father of Pentacles stands proud and emanates his energy outwards. He stands with his head held high with confidence and is steadfast.

To some, he may seem boring or predictable. But the Father of Pentacles’ strength lies in the fact that he’s steady and gentle, with an extremely calm temperament. Underneath it all, he’s incredibly passionate and prioritizes his family, job, and home. He’s entrepreneurial and diligent in his work. He works hard for his results and wants to make a big impact on the world.

For this third week of 2018, we’re being asked to look at how we can stand confidently in our pursuits. How can you move forward with something you’re passionate about? Where can you direct your energy to get the most results? What can you do to feel more well-rounded in your pursuits? This can be big or little things. There’s no need to put the weight of the world on your shoulders. Just move in the direction that feels good.

Until next week, xoxo

Right away, we can see the powerful impression that the Father of Swords makes. With his piercing gaze and multi-coloured sword, he exudes knowledge, authority, and mastery. The Father is not afraid to face things head on. He doesn’t mince his words, nor does he hesitate in delivering his messages.

His sword, concentrated with all the colours of the rainbow, shows that he masters the airy realm of thoughts, analysis, and judgement. He rules with a holistic approach and thinks things through thoroughly. He will consider multiple angles of every situation before taking action. His actions are measured carefully and he acts with full consciousness.

Emotions don’t cloud his judgement. He isn’t entirely tuned out of his feelings rather, he processes the world through thinking and his decisions are made without bias.

For the week ahead, the Father of Swords asks us to reevaluate how his approach is or isn’t at work for us. Are you acting in accordance with your moral principles? Are you considering all the facts at hand? How can you fully own your authority and make confident decisions with conviction?

Until next week, xoxo

This week’s card is the Hanged Man, whose central focus is the bat. A truly unique creature, everything about the bat’s lifestyle offers a new perspective: sitting in suspension, hanging upside all day, and active at night.

To us, the bat is hanging upside down – but to the bat – it’s right-side up. His unique perspective allows him to look at all of reality from a different angle than we consider to be ‘normal’. Bats hang this way because their wings aren’t strong enough to go into flight from the ground. They hang from their feet and break into flight when they let go and plummet through the air.

The metaphor of finding flight only once we let go is the message here. Waiting until he is ready, the bat will only take flight when he’s ready. This week’s card is asking us to relinquish control. Trying to hold on to things in our lives, we spend so much energy – physical, emotional, and spiritual – on attempting to control things that are often beyond our rule. Perhaps it’s time for us to let go and connect with our power and abilities in unfathomable and potent ways. There’s also an idea here of finding comfort in discomfort and not trying to control our situation or “fix it” simply because it’s something we’re unaccustomed to.

The Hanged Man asks us to consider the infinite perspectives available to us – to challenge ourselves to see things from another angle. This will require that we let go of our ego’s desire to control things and sit in the muck of things, as uncomfortable as it may seem.

Until next week, xoxo

Whenever we see a card in the suit of cups come up in a reading, we’re being asked to bring our attention to our emotions. A watery symbol of the currents of emotions, it often deals with our connections to others and matters of the heart.

The Daughter of Cups (one card previous to this in a deck) has a child-like innocence to her and we can still see some of that innocence here but with it comes new levels of complexity. In the background, we can see that the lines are slanted – suggesting that this energy represents a varied, multi-dimensional emotional sphere rather than stability.

A little reserved with his emotions, we can see a gamut of colours rising from a cup that sits in front of the Son, representing that he’s feeling a whole spectrum of emotions. He holds these close to him so that they can be examined. While the Son sees the beauty in life and can see poetry in his own self-reflection, he’s also prone to moods and being over-sensitive.

The son represents paradoxes when it comes to our emotions. While he can be introspective, he can also be self-indulgent. He’s poetic but this can also be quite sappy and while he’s intuitive, he can ignore logic. The Son of Cups is learning how to handle the spectrum of his bubbling internal world.

This week we’re being asked to approach situations with a balanced perspective and compassion. We’re being asked to examine our deeper feelings and motivations and understand if the emotional energy at work within us is healthy. Is it possible that our emotions are bubbling wildly? Now is the time to hone our skills in navigating our emotional landscape and understand how to express our feelings without overwhelming ourselves or others.

Until next week, xoxo
